I have a couple of clients that make six figures a month just from books and masterclasses. It’s all about how you promote yourself.

You have to make sure you are willing to invest in the marketing and advertising. You also have to surround yourself with the right people who will point you in the right direction.

Dr. Trina Pullum

On Dr. Pullum’s birthday, she gave birth to “Growing with Grace” – a book series that has been in her heart for over 2 years.

I thought I was writing this book to help my son heal but it was more about me healing the little girl inside of me – which is Grace. I’ve been through trauma and grief but never really dealt with it beyond pouring into others and creating organizations.

The first book, The Importance of Family Traditions, was inspired by her son’s experience dealing with the death of grandparents. She was on the search for books to help with grief and coping with the loss of loved ones. Since she couldn’t find relevant and relatable books on the shelves, she created her own series!

What better time to release a book series that give hope to others than during the onset of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic – a period where over half million people lost their lives around the world.

How To Turn Your Passion into Profits

“If it’s something that you really want to do, you have to look at how you can maximize. How can you make a profit off of it?,” says Dr. Pullum.

“Turn your book into a stage play. You can create a masterclass or several depending on how broad the topic of your book is. Speaking engagements are another way to sell your product. You can also do a virtual book or summit.”

Dr. Pullum offers master classes and consulting to help authors find creative ways to profit from their books.

“Grace is a part of a national distribution center that we felt comfortable working with. It’s available in the U.S. and other countries around the world. School districts have been our biggest support. I have also received orders for a virtual summer camp. Book clubs have been another way we were able to maximize,” says Dr. Pullum.

Getting Started on Your Journey

How can you follow in Dr. Trina’s footsteps and become a children’s book author?

“Get yourself a journal. Write down your vision. Think about two people you look up to in the industry that you want to go into who can help you,” says Dr. Pullum.

“Commit at least one hour a day to work on your vision. Be intentional about where you show up. Take away some nuggets you can use to invest into your dream.”

Dr. Pullum adds, “Find someone online that you look up to that you wouldn’t mind mirroring. Watch and see what they are doing. Use that person as a mentor from a far.”

Consistency is a big key. Don’t worry about the likes. Be intentional about what you are doing, who your target audience is, and watching people who is running their business similar to how you would like yours to run.
