If you know me, you know that I’m very strategic. You also know that I work to have fun, learn, and share my gifts. My time is precious and I’m not going to waste it doing something that doesn’t make my soul light up with excitement or allow me to gain new and steamy insights. I take my happiness very serious.
So when I received the call to work on the set of EMPIRE in 2015, I was pretty darn ecstatic. Although I had never seen an episode of EMPIRE prior to my booking (I actually didn’t watch much TV that didn’t involve a woman vying for a pageant title), I still was excited to work with the biggest names in Entertainment in the black community.
And when I found out I was selected to work as a core EMPIRE employee and stand-in on the set of EMPIRE, I was on cloud 9. This meant that I would get frequent work opportunities! Woohoo!
I immediately asked myself, “how do you plan to maximize your time on set while you wait in holding?”
Of course, I would participate in networking, eating, and resting. But I wanted more.
So I found ways to make additional cash while on set with Terrence Howard (yea my mom had a huge crush on him. Don’t tell her I told you!).
Here are 3 ways I earn money while sitting on the set of EMPIRE networking with the most talented creatives in the city of Chicago:
1. Investing in the Stock Market
Burn all the myths you’ve heard about investing and do your research. You don’t need thousands of dollars to invest in the market. You can start right now with the check you’ll receive from working on set or one day of working in the office.
Sign up for an account at a trusted brokerage firm within minutes! Ally Invest, Fidelity Investments, and TD Ameritrade are examples of some of the most popular brokerage firms.
Now determine which stocks you want to invest in. What are your favorite companies? McDonalds (MCD), Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT), and Apple (AAPL) are all companies that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or NASDAQ. You can find the price of shares for publicly traded companies by going to Yahoo Finance and typing in the ticker symbol.
Look at market trends to predict what the up and coming stocks will be (these stocks will probably be more affordable). When you purchase shares of stock and the price of your stock goes up, you’ll earn money! Woohoo! Just be careful about selling a stock without holding it for a year because you’ll be subject to short term capital gains tax if you make a profit.

2. Owner of a Consulting Firm, CEO Unlimited LLC
I don’t believe in settling. And being stuck is a thought of the past.
In 2013, an idea popped in my head to create CEO Unlimited LLC. CEO stands for Creating Endless Opportunities.
It hurts to see people lose their job, get looked over for promotions, or struggle financially because they are unaware of their options.
I realized a lot of people don’t receive opportunities because A) they don’t have a resume B) they haven’t updated their resume C) their resume looks like the grinch who stole Christmas (stop scaring off your potential opportunities with a hideous resume!) D) or they can’t recognize the opportunities that exist during the struggle.
There is more than enough opportunities for all of us to win! Through my consulting firm, I provide LinkedIn and Resume makeovers so that we can all get what we want. I help individuals attract endless opportunities by helping them transform their profile from invisible to irresistible.
When I think about a resume or LinkedIn makeover, I think about a hot date. You want to put your best foot forward and appear so irresistible that people keep coming back for more!
Now that’s the power of a hot resume! Go get your opportunity!
I’ll show you how to provide bait to attract your next big opportunity!

3. Certified Public Accountant
I almost renounced my throne as a CPA when I left my job in financial services. But if you knew everything I went through and endured to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), you’ll understand why I’m not giving up a thing.
In fact, I’m going back for more and expanding my services as a freelance CPA. That’s right. I just became a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor (happy dance all day long!) and can now help all the up and coming entrepreneurs manage their financial flow (super excited!).
I’m developing my QuickBooks consulting and accounting packages for all of those number antagonists who won’t dare attempt to create a journal entry or balance the books. I’m also working to become a money expert for actors and other creatives during tax time.
But for now, my primary source of income as a CPA comes from writing about topics of interests for accounting and finance professionals. I’ve also written about money, accounting, and taxes for the Huffington Post, Women on Business, and Black Enterprise.
And I’m also working on a book. Stay tuned! When you’re doing what you love, your creative flow moves like never before.
